Tyrann Mathieu, born and raised in New Orleans and the 2011 SEC Championship MVP at LSU, returned to his hometown to host a weekend of charity events in support of his Tyrann Mathieu Foundation, the non-profit organization whose mission is to positively impact the lives of youth through encouragement, opportunities and technology necessary to achieve their dreams.

On Saturday, Mathieu launched his 1st Annual Tyrann Mathieu & Friends Celebrity Kickball Classic.  The evening featured a celebrity kickball game with current and former NFL athletes, notable LSU alumni, numerous New Orleans natives and celebs from sports and entertainment. Proceeds from the event benefitted The Tyrann Mathieu Foundation.

Celebrity kickball coaches included LSU Football head coach, Ed Orgeron, and rapper, producer and co-founder of Cash Money Records, Birdman. The celebrity kickball teams were highlighted by Patrick Peterson, Jarvis Landry, Jamal Adams, Brand Wing, Antione Bethea, Chandler Jones, Tony Jefferson, Ted Ginn Jr., Hasson Reddick, Trey Edmunds, Markus Golden, Josh Magee, DJ Afterthought, the Clermont Twins, DJ Superstar Jay, Justin Vincent, Marcus Spears, Michael Griffin, Jerald Hawkins, Duke Riley, Cyril Grayson, and current LSU seniors Donte Jackson and Arden Key.

The following day, Mathieu teamed up with Hard Count Athletics to host a free youth football skills camp for four hundred local children at the New Orleans Saints practice facility. Tyrann’s vision for the Heart of a Badger camp is to provide the New Orleans community with a safe and productive environment to develop their football skills. Four hundred local youth, boys and girls, enjoyed a football skills camp, complete with food, goodie bags, and a chance to meet and interact with Tyrann “Honey Badger” Mathieu.

Skills coaches included friends and colleagues of Mathieu, certified coaches from Hard Count Athletics, and the St. Augustine High School Football coaching staff.
