Tyrann Mathieu Foundation Awarded Social Justice Grant by NFL Foundation

On Thursday, the Tyrann Mathieu Foundation was awarded a
$5,000 grant from the NFL Foundation as part of the NFL’s initiative to help
players get more involved in social causes within their community. The grant
funding will support of the Tyrann Mathieu Foundation’s educational programs
for inner-city youth in Houston and Mathieu’s home city of New Orleans.

Mathieu, who is experiencing his first season with the
Houston Texans after five seasons in Arizona, has been active in the community
over the past several months. At the end of the summer, Mathieu assembled and
distributed 500 backpacks full of classroom supplies to Boys & Girls Clubs
in Houston and New Orleans. A month later, he returned to the Phoenix area to
unveil his inaugural Tyrann’s Tech Zone at the Boys & Girls Club of
Gilbert, which provides students with access to STEM-based learning technology.
The grant will allow Mathieu and his Foundation to continue enriching students’
lives through innovative learning programs.

The NFL Foundation’s Social Justice Grant program provides
grant funding to nonprofit organizations whose missions are focused around
social justice causes and have been financially supported by an NFL Player.
According to the NFL Foundation’s website, the grants are designed to reduce
barriers to opportunity through a focus on education, criminal justice reform,
poverty, racial equality, and many other causes.

The grant will allow the Tyrann Mathieu Foundation to
continue to grow its outreach programming in its new markets in Houston and New
Orleans.
